Keeping active

If you are under 18, it is recommended that you have at least one hour of moderate to vigorous activity per day. You should also be getting around 8-10 hours of sleep a night.

If you are over 18, it is recommended that you are active on most (preferably all) days, with a weekly total of 2.5-5 hours of moderate activity or 1.25-2.5 hours vigorous activity.

Tips for increasing your activity levels

  • Try not to sit down for long periods of time
  • Remember, any physical activity is better than nothing, especially if you are starting to exercise for the first time
  • Find activities that you enjoy that get you moving, exercise should be fun!

Try to include some muscle strengthening activities throughout your week. Muscle strengthening activities can include lifting weights, climbing stairs, cycling, dancing, and yoga.
